1 Day Solo (4days)

@Umami Mountain Retreat, Franschhoek.

Schedule

  • Arrive Thursday 1pm and join a group of approximately 8 people on the camp ground in the woods at Umami. Camping facilities, plus individual tents, kitchen plus utensils, showers and ablutions provided.

  • Thursday Afternoon and evening plus Friday will be spent with the group plus a guide preparing for your one-day solo. During this time, we will do ‘circle work’ covering psychological, emotional and physical preparation for your solo. We will also select your spot or ‘resting place’ for the solo (there are several wooden decks on the lower slopes of Franschhoek mountain). Please bring food for your evening meal on Friday and for your meals for Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Ample refrigeration is available.

  • Saturday early morning there is a brief ceremony, and then each Quester goes out to their solo deck for the next 24 hours.

  • Basic kit for the solo is provided e.g. tarp, shade sail, trowel, 5 liters of water.

  • The Quester takes a journal and pen, but no watch, cell phone, books or food i.e. nothing to ‘distract’ or activate the mind.

  • Early Sunday morning a horn is blown to signal the return of Questers to base camp.

  • Breakfast and showers are provided.

  • The group sits in circle and each Quester tells his or her story. There are often many realizations and profound insights. Each story is ‘mirrored’ back to the quester by the guide.

  • Group departs at approximately 12 am

There is a selection of 1-day solo decks ranging from close to base camp to further along the lower hiking trail.
